The V-Max needed a wobble correction In 1993 Yamaha made the one big update that the V-Max needed. They engineered it to have a new fork with a larger diameter because of drift and wobbling at higher speeds. Upgrades to the brake calipers and a few tweaks to satisfy safety and handling regulations were implemented but overall, the bike remained unchanged. 6. The V-Max came out as a new concept bike in 2005 A brand new V-Max was introduced to the world as a concept bike at the 39th Tokyo Motor Show in 2005. The new version of the bike was presented sporting upgraded components all around, a new chassis and braking components which were state of the art. 7. The Yamaha V-Max wasn’t launched in India until 2009 Although it’s hard to believe that it took this long to happen, the Yamaha V-Max didn’t make its way to the country of India until 2009. Vývoj a design: Duchovními otci V-Maxe jsou bezesporu pánové Araki, Ashihara a Kurachi. Podle pana Araki vše začalo při jeho návštěvě USA za účelem sledování tamního trhu. Zde shlédl bláznivé závody na 400m dlouhém mostě přes řeku Mississipi. Jak říká sám: O prvním konceptu tohoto motocyklu začal uvažovat právě po shlédnutí této působivé show, která ho inspirovala k vytvoření silného a skutečně rychlého motocyklu jednoduchého a čistého vzhledu. Vše začalo v designerském centru v Santa Monice, kde spolu s panem Ashiharou (projekt motoru) a panem Kurachim (vzhled) vytvořili první náčrty a výkresy tohoto stroje. Vzhledově působí i dnes V-Max nadčasovým a zcela specifickým vzhledem. Do podvědomí široké veřejnosti se tento motocykl dostal na tolik, že pod slovem silný motocykl si mnoho nezasvěcených představí právě V-Max. Tento stroj nelze skutečně přehlédnout a všude, kde se objeví, vzbudí vždy patřičný dojem. Za vše může jeho zcela specifický vzhled. Bezesporu nejnápadnější dominantou celého motocyklu je mohutný čtyřválcový motor do V a imitace náporového sání s nápisem Yamaha, která však více vzduchu do karburátorů nepřivádí. Jako lehká přetvářka působí velice tenká atrapa nádrže se znakem ladičky, která je celá stejně jako blatníky vyvedena pro rok 2001 v karbonovém vzhledu. Imitace nádrže je navíc doplněna o efektní kapličku s přístrojovým panelem, který nám dá znát teplotu motoru, ukazatel otáček a dále je doplněn o sadu standardních kontrolek. Pod zmiňovanou imitací nádrže se ve skutečnosti skrývá vzduchový filtr. Opravdová, poněkud menší nádrž (15 l) je uložena pod sedlem. Přístup k jejímu hrdlu je řešen odklopením opěrky zad u sedla řidiče. V roce 1998 se V-Max vrátil k slušivé chromové výfukové soustavě a v roce 1999 k leštěným kolům a krytům předních tlumičů. Je pravdou, že bez chromovaných kónických koncovek výfuků by to snad ani V-Max nebyl. Z ovládacích prvků zaujme asi hlavně umístění spínací skříňky v boku stroje a přepínání rezervy přímo na řidítkách, což spatřuji za velice praktické. Na tento stroj existuje mnoho oficiálních i neoficiálních doplňků. Za pozornost stojí zmínit určitě alespoň sporadické plexi, kufr, přídavnou nádrž, či opěrku zad spolujezdce. Za úlet pak osobně považuji zvyšování, již tak dost brutálního výkonu. Důkazem takových úprav je tento výpis a graf z motorové brzdy. Kupodivu dobrý "šajn" zajišťuje nepříliš výrazná, ale zato pěkně chromovaná svítilna. V-Max není jistě motocykl pro každého, ale koho uchvátí překrásný robustní vzhled, těžko bude někdy chtít měnit. Motor a jízdní vlastnosti: Srdcem motocyklu je kapalinou chlazený čtyřdobý čtyřválcový motor do V (70°) o zdvihovém objemu 1198 cm3 a výkonu 106,7 kW (145 k) při 8700 ot./min. Ten pochází z cestovního XVZ 1200, avšak aby bylo dosaženo z 97 k poctivých 145 k, bylo zapotřebí použití větších ventilů se silnějšími pružinami, ostřejší vačkové hřídele, lehčí písty a předělaný klikový hřídel s ojnicemi. No a nakonec maximální zrychlení a výkon zajišťuje systém "V-Boost". Jde o to, že kanály levých a pravých válců jsou spolu spojeny. Toto spojení je však do 5000 ot/min uzavřeno škrtící klapkou. Jakmile však otáčky motoru vyskočí nad tuto hranici, servomotor tuto klapku otevírá až k maximu v 8000 ot/min. Každý válec je tak v podstatě plněn dvěma karburátory najednou. Výsledkem je opravdu drtivý nástup motocyklu po této hranici a srdce beroucí zrychlení, při kterém se máte co ohánět, aby jste se v náporu větru udrželi řidítek. Maximální točivý moment tohoto stroje je 122 při 7500 ot/min. V Evropě je k dispozici ke koupi i slabší verze bez "V-Boost" systému, která potom disponuje "pouze" výkonem 102,3 k. Motor běží ve všech pásmech téměř bez vibrací a působí velice kultivovaným dojmem. Při hmotnosti 262 kg je opravdu nutná pořádná síla k manipulaci na místě a proto standardně dodávaný centrální stojan ke klasickému policajtovi je bezesporu i z bezpečnostního hlediska nutností při jakékoli údržbě. Usazení na V-Maxovi je opravdu pohodlné a to i pro spolujezdce. Podle mého názoru je to tak něco mezi cestovním strojem a chopperem. Více strastí si spíše užijete s podvozkem. V zatáčkách má trochu kývavé a houpavé tendence, ale upřímně řečeno, od tohoto motocyklu nelze očekávat výkony supersportu. S V-Maxem se naopak budete cítit jako ryba ve vodě na rovných úsecích maximálně s táhlou zatáčkou. Na nich si lze i ledasco dovolit. Vše přesně ve stylu táhlých amerických silnic na dlouhé lokte, to má tento stroj nejraději. Svým majitelům přináší hlavně pocit síly a brutálního výrazu. Je vhodným adeptem na různé přestavby a je pravdou, že právě tomuto odvětví se hlavně v Německu věnuje velká skupina nadšenců. Pokud jste byli v roce 1999 na Streetfighter Day v Českých Budějovicích, jistě si vzpomenete na hordu V-Maxů právě z Německa i s doprovodnou dodávkou. Co se jízdních vlastností týče dále, je nesmysl si myslet, že s V-Maxem díky jeho vcelku brutálnímu výkonu budete trhat rychlostní rekordy. Oficiální maximální rychlost je stanovena na 238 km/h, avšak dosáhnout jí lze tak možná, když se zlomíte v pase. Běžná cestovní rychlost je podle mého názoru tak do 160 km/h, to není odpor vzduchu ještě příliš znát. Pokud si však chcete rychlost vychutnat se vším všudy, V-Max bude rozhodně ten poslední, který se bude bránit. Oproti kapotovaným strojům bych v tomto případě našel jednu výhodu. Nemusíte se lepit na nádrž, protože vám to stejně k ničemu nebude, lepší je vyztužení zad pořádnou traverzou a dostatečné přikurtování k řidítkům. Opravdu příjemným překvapením jsou brzdy. Jejich účinnost je zcela úměrná výkonovému potenciálu stroje a jednoznačně se na ně můžete spolehnout v každé situaci. Jejich mechanizmus pochází z FZR 1000 a do V-Maxe se montují od roku 1993. Bez povšimnutí nelze minout ani pěkné leštěné ráfky kol, jejichž vnitřní výplň je pro V-Maxe také velice typická záležitost. Spotřeba je vzhledem k výkonu a možnostem stroje poňekud vyšší, ale vše záleží na stylu vaší jízdy. My jsme se při běžném cestovním tempu dostali v testu i tak na vcelku slušných 6,7 l/100km, ale není problém se při razantnější jízdě vyšplhat až na 9 l/100km. O to více je potom znát jen 15 l nádrž. Velmi příjemnou záležitostí hlavně z dlouhodobého hlediska a údržby je také jistě fakt, že sekundární převod je řešen bez údržbovým kloubovým hřídelem. Závěr: V-Max není jistě motocykl pro každého. Svému majiteli nabízí zcela specifické vlastnosti, jenž byste u konkurence jen stěží hledali. Je opravdovým unikátem, který se velice dobře hodí na všemožné úpravy. Pokud jste příznivcem cestování, či rychlé jízdy, vždy si námět na nějakou tu úpravu určitě najdete. To však neznamená, že by koupě motocyklu znamenala následně nutnost úprav. V-Max si bohatě vystačí i s tím, co dostane od výroby. Záleží jen na vás, na kolik budete chtít být individualistou. Jisté je jedno V- Max vás v tomto ohledu určitě nezklame. A věřte mi, ten specifický brumlavý zvuk a osobitý styl co nabízí, za to určitě stojí. Cena testovaného motocyklu činí 398 787 Kč. Coolant level. I bought a 95 V Max a month ago. The bike is stock with approximately 35k miles. I filled the coolant system and i pukes a little coolant out the overflow tube, when the engine is at operating temp. The overflow reservoir doesn't fill up or go do down in volume, coolant just comes out the drain
One of the main reason for causing this “wacky” feeling when driving your V-max are the aged original tires, which sit on very narrow rims. In comparison with today’s modern radial ply tyres they cause chassis unrests much faster. They also did not really fit in the overal “big” V-max view. So you need broader rims for modern tires, …… we offer a large selection to you. All our rims/wheels and/or wheel sets (except 595B, 591C and 593D) are supplied to be built in the motorcycle in the same wheel track as the original rear wheel. We offer for chassis improvement up to rims for 180’s and 190’s tires. Wider rims (starting from 6,00 width) required the motion link to be changed, if not, the rear wheel runs for at least 10 mm outside track. (Even if some “specialist” tell something else-but why do they offer in connection with 6″ rim a new brake support?). All rims/wheels offered by us are supplied with wheel bearings, shaft seals and valves ready to be installed. The original brake assembly or a re-equipment offered by us can be used. Our widened aluminum wheels are completely all around welded, not screwed, as in the past many problems occured with screwed aluminum rims on aluminum casting hubs (by the two different materials). If you select a rim/wheel, which is offered “in exchange”, please send your old wheel/rim first. Chassis No. (vehicle Ident. No.) is required. I'm 6ft 1in and it's comfortable. Bought it used 5 years ago with a Corbin seat, so comfortable (though removing the gas cap through a flap and hole in the seat is annoying. Weights 620 lbs wet, so harder to upright if tipped, but have done it myself (I'm 74 yrs old). I agree with the previous comment that the bike is what you make it. I enjoy it and would recomend it to a friend who is a responsible rider. Otherwise it could get someone in trouble. Also had to add an aftermarket smaller windshield (about $ USD) to prevent "parachuting" at highway speeds. Ride quality & brakes 4 out of 5 Brakes are not up to the engine power, but adequate. I only ride for to 3 hours and at that no problems. I use it as an all around bike, my only one. No problem with pillion due to power. Will need to replace back shocks (replaced front springs with Progressive shortly after buying due to diving during breaking). Engine 5 out of 5 Great, smooth powerful engine, modded from Yamaha's Venture. Reliability & build quality 5 out of 5 Bought this with 26K miles on it and have added another 25K in 5 years. Had to replace the stator, possibly due to low oil level / cooling problem. Was a year ago and no problems since. Only tires, normal wear as I don't ride over aggressively. Value vs rivals 5 out of 5 Costs for set of tires and oil/filter change. Each done yearly. See above also. Costs have been low so far. Just replaced a clutch switch. Equipment 4 out of 5 Added stiffer front fork springs, saddle bags, and a mid-size windshield. Use Shinko Toruing tires for compromise between handling and longevity. Buying experience: Bought used from a Yamaha dealer. Paid less than advertised base on blue book at time. V-max's tend to hold value - cult following. 5 out of 5 OLD RELIABLE18 November 2007 by murphit Having owned and ridden my Max for the last ten years in all conditions, including snow and ice, I find that comments of bad handling to be misplaced. Understand and respect what is under you and the machine csn return fast safe rides. No I'm not a slow rider, I use the Max to the Max. Reliable, fun, respected by others, reputation justified, only down side is the quality of finish, but with some effort this is easy to overcome. I still look for a replacement for the Max but fail to find a machine that has the ability to come close to it's stance, torque, power, and all round suitability. I have ridden 350+ miles in a day and enjoyed every mile, and still walked normally when I got off. My missus when a pillion passenger does not have to perch on a pad high above me. Basically it's as mean as a junk yard dog, and it's rear end dangely bits.
